Making Jam

Our plan was to make some Salmonberry, Huckleberry jam. But we realized the day before our jam making day that all the salmonberry bushes had been all picked. So we bought some delicious local strawberries, picked as many huckleberries as we could, and made some excellent toast topper.
It was a great team effort to get as many huckleberries as possible.

"We picked tons" said Isla

Many children washed the berries well.

"Look, they are the same colour but different shape" said Sophia
Sugar was added to the berries.

We stirred the berries on a low heat.

When the jam had thickened, we cooled it in the freezer during rest time. In the afternoon it was ready! We toasted some bread and we had two types to try. Strawhuckle or Raz-huckle.
Everyone tried one of each. Most children thought the Strawhuckle was the best.
